Webometric Analyst replaces LexiURL Searcher

Webometric Analyst is the new name for LexiURL Searcher. Along with the name change, Yahoo has been removed (because it shut down its support for program-submitted searches) and link searches have been replaced by URL citation (or title mention) searches. Please visit http://lexiurl.wlv.ac.uk to download Webometric Analyst if you use LexiURL Searcher for link analysis

Hi,

I'm trying to use your excelent program to do a Web Impact Report but I'm afraid of it isn't working correctly, at least not with Windows Vista.

When I select the option 'Web Impact Report' and add a .txt file, I receive next message: "Sorry, the Bing/MSN Search Service connection is not working at the moment."

Subsequently, the program either closes itself or doesn't obtain any result.

I have tried it several times, at different days and with different files, and the result was the same.

Thank you very much for your program, LexiURL was really useful for my research.

Kind regards.

Hi Luis,
Thanks for your email. I am very sorry about this. Bing replaced its web service last week, which is the reason why Webometric Analyst does not work. Please download a new version from here:
http://cid-63ea9dd591e1bebb.office.live.com/self.aspx/Public/Webometric%20Analyst%20restricted%207%205%202011.exe
This new version uses Version 2.0 of the Bing data service. Unfortunately, this seems to give only about a third as many results as the main Bing search engine and the previous version. This means that results with the previous version of Webometric Analyst are not compatible with results from the new version so you would have to start again from the beginning if you are in the middle of data collection. I am very sorry about this.
Best wishes,
Mike

Thank you very much for your answer.

Fortunately, I already completed the first part of my research using LexiURL and I am trying to start the second part with Webometric Analyst.

I'll try this new version and let you know if there is any problem.

Thanks a lot again.

Kind regards.

Prof Thelwall,

How do we do 'query splitting' using Webometric Analyst to get a comprehensive analysis? Would you mind pointing me to a guide to do this? Thank you!

Mike Thelwall said...

I'm sorry but query splitting is only in the professional version of Webometric Analyst. This is free to researchers so if you are a PhD student or researcher please email me for a copy.
Best wishes,
Mike

Query splitting has now been added to the free version of Webometric Analyst.
